I always enjoy this time of year when the paint companies come out with their colour of the year.  Earlier this month Sherwin Williams announced their 2018 Colour of the Year – Oceanside SW 6496.  Oceanside is a saturated, opulent, jewel toned colour.  I would classify Oceanside as a blue but it’s rich in green undertones, so depending on your light it may pull either colour.

I personally am a big fan of these bold colours.  When it comes to using a more saturated colour in your home I think a little can go a long way.  Bringing this colour onto your doors or accent pieces can create a welcoming statement in your home.

If you still love your white or gray walls – no worries – this colour would work beautifully as an accent colour.

If you like this colour but feel it’s too dark for you or your room here is a lighter alternative.  The bedroom below is Lakeshore SW 6494.

While beautiful as a wall colour another option to bringing this colour into your home would be to paint a piece of furniture.  The dresser below wasn’t painted with Oceanside but looks quite similar.

If you think you may want to incorporate this colour into your home, I recommend painting a poster board and holding it up in various parts of the room.  Lighting (both interior and exterior) is a big factor in whether this colour will work in your space.

While I enjoy following the trends I think it’s very important to remember that they are simply trends.  The most important thing when deciding what colour to use in your home is to ensure it’s a colour you love and can live with for years to come (unless you are a Colour Consultant and repainting your walls is a yearly endeavour 🙂

Happy Decorating!
