Happy 2018!  I hope that your New Year has been a good one so far.  Today’s colour inspiration is all about the colour purple and how to incorporate this energetic colour into your home.

Pantone’s Colour of the Year – 2018

A couple of months ago Pantone announced their 2018 Colour of the Year – Ultra Violet.  Ultra violet is a vibrant purple with strong blue undertones.  Pantone chooses a color each year that it expects to appear prominently in fashion, products, design and life—as well as reflect current mood or attitudes.  Ultra Violet was chosen to evoke a counterculture flair, a grab for originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking.  The following picture is a good illustration of Ultra Violet being used in design.

There are many different versions of purple.  A beautiful, softer version of Ultra Violet is Exclusive Plum by Sherwin Williams SW 6263.  It is striking either as an accent colour or an all over colour in a room.

A lighter purple paired with white makes for a very serene and restful bedroom.

Green is a great colour choice to incorporate with purple.  If using these two colours in the same room try to ensure the visual strength of these two colours is consistent for the best results.

If painting isn’t on your agenda, accessories are always a great alternative.  Blankets, throws, pillows and florals are just some of the ways to incorporate this rich and majestic colour into your home.
